Top Fall Beauty Tips From Makeup Artist Brett Freedman

Fall is well underway--deliciously crisp weather, bundling up in heavier sweaters, yummy fall boots seeing the light of day. But with all falls benefits comes an unfortunate downside: seasonal skin freak outs! I don't know about you guys, but whenever the season changes, my skin fully spazzes out. Dry in some areas, heinously oily in others, parched lips... Eek! I asked makeup artist Brett Freedman for his top coping
mechanisms. Enjoy!

1. Vaseline: This cure-all is a must-have for any gal's wintertime makeup bag.

When lips are very parched, apply a touch of aloe to lips at night followed by petroleum jelly on top. The aloe 'fills in the gaps' of the lips and the Vaseline holds it in.

Lightly rub Vaseline on the eyelashes to darkens and condition - a great nighttime ritual.

Try Vaseline on elbows and knees after a shower to fight ashy, dry skin.

2. Bright Colors: Juicy tones add brightness and instant glamour to fair winter skin.

I heart Benefit's Throb powder, a beautiful toasted cranberry color that gives a natural looking flush. Sweep from apple of cheeks toward temples. Also, dust on chin and along hairline to give the face a warm glow.

Get out of the recent lip gloss haze and rediscover the 'drama mama' inside. Embrace a classic and grab a lip color that demands attention, like the beautifully bold YSL Candy Plum Sheer lipstick. Constance Jablonski's Beauty Secrets

("The life of a model isn't easy," Constance says, "But I try to keep a good head on my shoulders by staying close to my family and old friends. They're my support system.")

Darlings, there's nothing like going backstage during fashion week to rapidly dispel any preconceived notions about just how glamorous the modeling industry is. Seeing models huddled together—feebly clutching Red Bulls and stale bagels, sleeping under makeup tables, bandaging up stiletto-mangled feet—my, oh, my, it's actually quite a hard-knock life for catwalkers. But once in a while, I come across a rare specimen—a gorgeous glamazon who not only is the cream of the modeling crop but also makes it look totally effortless. I'm talking about one Miss Constance Jablonski. At nineteen, she's a new face of Estée Lauder and has walked more than 200 shows in just two years—and, wait, did I mention that she's staggeringly nice? The secret to her beauty and fashion success, says the France native, is simple: "I eat healthy, and I eat a lot," she says, with a laugh. "I have a huge breakfast every morning because I never know if I'll have time for lunch, especially during fashion week. It keeps my mood positive all day. And my parents taught me to have tons of fruit and vegetables, which I think helps my skin." (She also credits Estée Lauder's Hydrationist Skincare collection as her dry-skin savior: "It's light but really moisturizing!") Exercise, she adds, also plays a big part in staying balanced: "Many models do yoga, but I find it boring. I'd rather be outdoors having fun." Elle Fanning's Beauty Essentials

"I just had a breakthrough!" exclaims up-and-comer Elle Fanning, referring, rather surprisingly, not to a challenging role in a new film (although she has quite a few of those in the works) but to her recent ballet lesson. "I did three pirouettes in a row. Afterward, I screamed with happiness," explains the Los Angeleno, who straps on her pink pointe shoes for practice five days a week.

("Working with Sofia was like living in a fairy tale, where all your dreams come true," Elle says of her experience on set.)

Twelve-year-old Elle radiates the same effortlessly graceful vibe as her older sister, Dakota, does. She admits her entree into acting at age two was sparked by a typical little-sibling's rationale ("I grew up seeing her do it, so I wanted to try it too!" she recalls), but with a resume that includes parts alongside megastars Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett, Elle is carving out a career path all her own. She's playing a 1920s girl in the 3-D version of the ballet classic The Nutcracker as well as starring as the daughter of a hard-partying actor in Sofia Coppola's movie Somewhere. And despite being anointed by star-maker Coppola (whose fashion-forward eye has launched many a young actress, from Kirsten Dunst to Scarlett Johansson), Elle is sanguine: "My favorite part of my job is portraying different types of people. As long as I'm drawn to a character, I'll try it."

She admits that she's not quite as fearless when it comes to her beauty regimen, but fresh-faced Elle is better off for it. "I have sensitive skin, so I need to use a face wash that's pure. If it's too perfumy, I break out," she says, noting that her favorite is LancerRX Extremely Pure. In lieu of makeup, she focuses on good skin habits, like wearing sunscreen--that is, unless she's dressing up with her friends. "Then I'll try makeup with crazy sparkles in it!" she confesses. Her blonde locks, which are often twisted into a bun for ballet, get pampered with Kim Vo Moisturizing Conditioner, and she loves soaking in the tub with Lush bath bombs. But neither a megabusy schedule nor an achy body can keep Elle down. "Whether I'm acting or dancing, I always try to be the best that I can," she says.

Celebrity Fashion Trend: Neutral Dresses

Black is so last season! Make like celebrities Alexa Chung, Emma Stone, Taylor Swift and more and opt for frocks in skin tone colors like ivory, beige and peach.

Celebrities from Alexa Chung to Emma Stone are going nude--and no, we aren't talking about walking the red carpet in their birthday suits! Instead, celebrities are eschewing their L.B.Ds for the new basic: Neutral dresses in beige, ivory, peach and other skin tones. To get the look, make sure you opt for a frock that compliments your skin tone; Dresses that are 2-3 shades off your natural color are the easiest to pull off. But if you're looking for something more dramatic, an ensemble that exactly matches your skin tone can be gorgeous--just make sure you cover up enough, with longer hemlines or covered arms, to avoid looking too bare. Opting for natural-looking hair and makeup keeps in line with the dresses' minimalist vibes, but as Taylor Swift proved at the People's Choice Awards, bright red lips are a great way to add a much-needed punch of color to the neutral look.
